Just when you thought it was safe to go to the bookstore…

Any book lover will tell you there’s nothing harmless about the places where books are kept. Libraries and bookstores might seem perfectly innocuous to those who only go into one if they’re made to, and for most people the places where books live are perfectly harmless. And even those that aren’t, aren’t harmful to everybody. Just special people. Just the ones for whom the feel and scent of leather and paper in their hands is sweeter than chocolate and better than–well, you know.

Former Historian Ivy Hart is one of those people. She built a nest for herself in her family’s home in Chicago with rare old books, only to have them stolen in a break-in that was never solved. On the same day her parents were murdered by a chilling man in a long gray coat. Fearing for her own life, Ivy fled south and tried to disappear by taking a job in a tiny book shop in Georgia.

Ivy is happy at Sunshine Spirit Books and Whimsy and can almost believe she’s safe. She’s surrounded by rare books once again and spends her days talking to others who share her passion for the written word. The owners, Peony and Summer, treat her like family, and she’s sure with their kindness and support, she’ll eventually find the courage to go home.

But then a terrifying late night encounter as she’s closing up shop forces her to face the horror of what happened in Chicago, and exposes the bizarre truth about her precious sanctuary and its lovably trippy owners.

This story is still in the planning stages and will be an ongoing serial in the vein of those pulp adventures from the 30′s. Lots of adventure, danger, spookiness, nerdiness–and, sure, some romance. Stay tuned!
